5 Stars Great Projector for anyone
I first looked at many reviews on this projector online, I was mainly looking for something that was affordable but packed what I needed for whatever I might do. This projector had it all! It also was given the highest in reviews everywhere so my mind was made up.
Now I’m not like the other guys who seem to be professionals at this type of thing, but i wanted something to play my video games on and such and maybe more. When I first turned it on I was amazed. The brightness level blocks out any lights I have on and creates perfectly crisp and clear pictures with the best color I’ve seen in a projector and I’ve seen a lot. Though I laugh at amazons pic of a family watching in a room which appears lit by sunlight, which kills the pictures brightness horribly, that was my only complaint about it.
The hum wasn’t very loud either, I didn’t really notice it much and it was the simplest thing to set up. It works with my computer and PS3 perfectly and gives me a picture I can put my friends TV’s down for. I laughed at the up to 300″ in picture size, cause as long as its dark you can get as huge as you like. Parked the car in a parking lot and powered this baby up to play Guitar Hero on the side of a building and lets just say people noticed for at least half a mile, if that’s not bright enough (it was night time though) I don’t know what is.
This projector filled my needs and more. Even when DJing I got all the legalities out of the way and played music videos at my dances. I can say that a few probably went home and bought themselves one of these. I would recommend this projector to anyone for whatever you need. I hear complaints on the aspect ratio not changing, well now things are all coming in widescreen, so there’s not much reason to complain.
This thing ROCKS!!!
4 Stars Best Projector – Fan Noice = Good Prjector
This is absolutely a brilliant projector. Brilliant color and very sharp image. This is way cheaper than having big expensive HD TV for this size. I have this in my bedroom, projected to the complete wall opposite to the bed, and the projector placed on a wall-shelf above the bed, very close to the ceiling. I was scared to use a ceiling mount above the bed, so after a ride to Ikea and 20$, I got a nice strong shelve holding the projector.
I used this for like 8 months now and didn’t have any technical problems. I’m not exaggerating; kids prefer to watch blu-ray on this (in the ps3) than going to movies.
Just like all other projectors, you cannot turn on and off quickly. Once you turn it off, it keeps the fan on for a min or so until it cool down the lamp. And you can turn it back on only after that. I use the low light mode and that suppose to give you couple of 1000 extra hours of lamp life. And low light is more than enough for my room.
The only problem I have with this is recently it starts to make a Noise. More of like a whistle, but loud enough to annoy you. I tried cleaning the projector with an air-dust remover, but nothing change. It still make that noise.
5 Stars Don’t Worry, Just Buy It!
Just like you, I pored through all of these reviews looking for any and all information that I could find about this projector.
You have two types of reviews I’ve found: “regular guy” reviews and audio-video expert reviews that overwhelm you with low-level details.
From a “regular guy” perspective, if you are going to watch movies & football then my advice would be to stop looking and just buy it. You can’t beat this level of quality for the price. The picture is great right out of the box and on par with the HD picture I get from my Sony Bravia KDL-32S2000.
You’re welcome!
5 Stars A true HD Home Theatre (HDMI) w/Blu-ray experience!!!!!
If you want High Definition with HDMI and Blu-ray inputs at a very reasonable price the Mitsubishi HC-1500 7 color wheel DLP projector is the steal of the century for you!!!
Not the newest projector but the best priced one for your home theatre.
My Qualifying statement: My HD home theatre weighs in at about $2000 plus movies. A break down is; Mitsubishi HC-1500 $800 (orig $1495), Sony 5.1 Sound system (HT-ss2300) $400 (orig $500) and the Playstation 3 w/Blu-ray $400 and HDMI (Sony high speed) cables $160. Plus $150 HD Screen paint kit for my 108″ viewing wall screen. With this I have created a home HD Theatre presentation equal to IMAX (on a smaller scale).
The crown jewel to this fantastic home experience is the HC-1500.
Summation of the PRO’s: Computer (RGB), 12vdc control for remote screen,HDMI and component inputs for (narrow (4:3 ratio) 480i and 480p, widescreen (16:9 ratio) 720p, 1080i and 1080p) and S-video. Remote control allows you to; set aspect ratio, video input, set all features, complete menu access. Easy projector access manual ring for focusing and screen size zoom in/out. Lamp hourly use timer indication menu. ALSO infrared lens in front and rear of projector for 360 remote coverage. NOTE: reflect remote commands up to 30′ off wall screen too!! No fan filters !!! (You must keep the area clean and the projector in ventilated room. Basically 6 to 12 inches from obstacles. An outstanding DLP projector that provides the best picture one can imagine. This picture exceeds most movieplexs quality by far! The 7 color wheel (most projectors are 6) adds tens of thousands of additional colors to your viewing pleasure. NOTE: Max projected image size is 300″ optimum is up to 120″.
Summation of the CONS with resolutions: Minor points but valid ones; 1.) The HC-1500 HDMI input has no audio out jack or internal speaker. (With the HT-ss2300 there are 3 HDMI inputs and 1 HDMI output and auto audio output to 5.1 speaker system). 2.) Replacement projection Lamp assembly (VLT-HC910LP) costs over $300. (Lamp life 1500 hour in warm mode (brightest picture) or 3000 hours in cool mode (Normal brightness). Cool mode is the preferred). 3). For best results the room (Thus Home theatre) should/must be darkened. This ensures the HD experience is maximized. Believe me it is totally awesome. (NOTE: I have darkening blinds (Levolor cellular shades) which completes the theatre environment).
Bottomline: This 7 color wheel DLP Projector (720p /(1080i)is the best and most economical to have until the True HD Projectors (1080p)are more reasonably priced (starting at $2900 to $10000). Enjoy, I do everyday!!
5 Stars Outstanding value
I am really pleased with my projector. I have had it over 9 months and am still blown away at the quality. HD TV is mind blowing, especially sports. I have had many friends over, who have spent way more than me on large LCD TV. They cant believe how much I have paid, compared to their TVs. I have heard “Your picture is just as good as mine” more than once. I have it projected on a white wall, and it looks great. (One friend thought the wall was a TV.) It also works great with my PS3. Overall I think it is a steal for the price. I don`t see why anyone would buy a TV when they can get a projector. If you have the room, and a large white wall it is the only way to go.

5 Stars Very happy with my new purchase
I bought this projector after agonizing over the decision for a month and convincing the wife to let me pull the trigger. I was replacing a very old VGA quality Sharp projector that I really disliked using because the picture quality was so bad.
I got the new projector and opened it up right away when I got it. This new projector was much smaller than the old one and was pretty light so it was easy to mount up on the ceiling. Being in Denver a mile high up MSL one of the first things I had to do was put the projector in high altitude mode which brings up the only real negative I have with this projector. In high light mode the fan can be very loud. In low mode its tolerable and still produces plenty of light in my theater room.
The picture quality of this projector feeding it a High Def signal is amazing. Discovery Channel and National Geo HD channels are my new best friends and even watching the HD versions of network shows and sports events are eye opening experiences. Even normal def signals look pretty good although obviously fuzzier on a 90″ wide screen.
Light others I agree that the blacks could be blacker but really unless you are a big video person you probably won’t notice. The color settings out of the box and although I’ve played with it a bit I’m partially color blnd so I’d probably make it worse. :< )
Very happy with the purchase.
5 Stars Amazing projector, better than expected !!!!!
I developed a good opinion about this projector from reading the various reviews on the internet, but after I hooked it up and saw a Blu Ray movie on the big screen for the first time, I was blown away by the quality. The image size was larger than expected and playing Xbox 360 games was as lifelike as possible. I had an InFocus 4805 480p projector prior to getting this one, which was a very solid projector, but the Epson produces larger images from the same distance and does HD as well. The only possible disadvantage with this projector is that it lacks keystone correction, which makes the image as straight as possible if the unit is not level. I don’t think this is a major negative because the feet on the bottom of the unit are adjustable. This, along with the horizontal and vertical correction buttons make the image straight. They actually do a better job than the keystone correction on my 4805. I would strongly recommend this unit for anyone interested in a budget HD projector. For $[...], you can’t go wrong with the Epson 1080.
4 Stars Amazing projector for price but needs more contrast
I’ve done my fair of research and this is by far the best 1080p projector for the money. I’ve been using it with my blu-ray player and I highly recommend it. If you have any ambient light in the room and plan on watching it during the day get the “UB” version of this projector instead. It’s a little bit more pricey but completely worth it. Even with a grey screen it was hard to watch this projector in my family room during the day without blacking out all the windows.
5 Stars Great value!
Purchased to upgrade my existing home theater projector and am very happy with my choice. The picture is great for HDTV, DVD and Blu-Ray. Bottom line… EXCELLENT projector!
5 Stars worth every penny
This projector worth every penny for the picture quality you get. It is not well known by public, maybe that is why it is such a bargain.

Panasonic PT AX200U 720p 3LCD Home Theater Projector

The PT-AX200 is ideal for watching sports events or playing video games in daylight conditions and surely for viewing movies in a dark room. Powerful 2,000-lumen brightness and new Light Harmonizer 2 technology make it easy for people to enjoy vibrant, dynamic images even if they don’t have a special theater room. Together with the 2,000-lumens brightness, Panasonic’s Light Harmonizer 2 technology produces vivid and easy-to-see images even in the kind of bright lighting that makes images from other projectors look whitish, faded or lacking in detail. The Light Harmonizer 2 circuit not only adjusts the gamma curve, but also controls the iris setting, lamp power, and picture sharpness to maintain easy, comfortable viewing at all times. The PT-AX200 features a Game mode that improves signal processing for better response, allowing you to play games with minimal stress. It also reveals gradation in saturated areas to show details that are otherwise lost in very dark areas. The Pure Color Filter was born from Panasonic’s pursuit of optical technology that delivers true Hollywood picture quality. The light spectrum is adjusted to produce a level of light that maximizes the performance of the LCD panels, which expands the color range and produces truer blacks. The high definition picture of the PT-AX200 is remarkably smooth and film-like, while remaining amazingly sharp and detailed. Dynamic Iris has been refined to provide deeper, richer blacks for true image reproduction with stunning smoothness. This technology adjusts the lamp power, iris, and gamma curve according to data obtained from frame-by-frame histogram analysis of the image brightness level. The new Advanced Dynamic Sharpness Control determines image areas that need to be sharpened at varying degrees by examining small changes in brightness levels within the image. This greatly reduces noise amplification and delivers clear and natural looking images.

4 Stars best deal out there
best projector under [...] hands down.
I was looking for a projector that would be able to play nice with my Mac via a digital connection, do HD, be able to hook up an HDMI source, as well as an SD source and haven’t been disappointed at all!
NOTE: Not all DVD players are created equal and if you think your image looks kind of crappy, consider the source, I played a DVD through my PS2 onto this thing and it looked like crap, I could literally count the pixels, then I played a DVD through my Mac and I felt like I was sitting in a freaking theatre, it was pristine and clear and the colors were amazing.
I have mine hooked up to a receiver that up-converts my SD TV signal to 1080 and it looks alright (but what can you expect when you blow a 720×480 pixel image up to 92″!), though some channels I’ve noticed are better than others, it really shines when you play an HD source through it.
Sometimes you have to fiddle with the color/luminance options, but the good news is it has a ton options to tweak, and you can save profiles, so you basically tweak it once and load up different settings for different sources.
I play DVD’s out of my Mac into the pt-ax200u onto a 92″ screen via a cheap DVI-HDMI cable and it’s like being at the movies. Playing HD content off of fox.com is even better than what you see at the theater no joke! You seriously have to see it to believe it. And it works as nice big monitor, even though it’s native 1280×720, it’ll do 1920×1080 which is actually more than my regular flat screen monitor. I do video production and I can’t use it to accurately monitor the color and luminance levels of my photoshop projects and video projects, but it’s nice when you want to just sit back on the couch and get the work done that doesn’t involve tweaking colors or brightness/contrast levels.
A COUPLE OF THINGS TO NOTE:
I tried to the point of almost killing myself to get this thing to work right with a laptop running vista and couldn’t get it to do the same thing twice, the problem might be on Vista’s end (big surprise) but it’s something to be aware of.
Also if you get it you SHOULD NOT ENABLE ECO-MODE RIGHT AWAY.
I did that thinking I’d extend the life of my lamp and after 30 or 40 hours of use and noticed extremely annoying flickering. After searching forums about it I read that your supposed to “burn in” the lamp for like the first 500 hours or something by leaving it in normal mode. I switched it to normal mode and after an hour or so of use the flickering went away and I haven’t seen it back since almost 50 hours later.
ALso be aware of the lens shift difference between LCD and DLP projectors, the lens on this thing can move around a decent amount verses a DLP projector which can barely move the lens, if at all.
So bascially it’s not a perfect projector, but it works great with everything, really shines with HD content and you can’t beat the price.
3 Stars Worked great until the bulb went… at 290 hours
I don’t have too much to add on what other people have said – it’s a great projector. My projector-owning friends compared it quite favorably with the ones they own… it just has such bright, crisp images. I was very happy with my purchase.
However – the other day, after about one year and 290 hours of use (I am not a heavy user!), something was clearly wrong with the image. The colors were not saturated, the image was dull… brightness was lacking. One more evening of that, and then it wouldn’t start up – the “Lamp” indicator light was flashing. I will be ordering a new lamp, but it’s far from cheap. I’m pretty upset, as I don’t think I did anything in particular to make it die so early.
Hopefully this serves as a cautionary tale for those considering this product.
5 Stars I like it.
Bought this over a year ago and use it quiet regularly to watch movies on. No complaints, no issue. Operates great, never had any problems. Easy to setup and arrange.
Only the ‘energy saving’ feature sacrifices quality of picture, but what do you expect for less light to the bulb I suppose…
4 Stars great picture
Picture is outstanding right out of the box… even at 120 plus inches. would be even better if had 12v trigger. Still a great projector
5 Stars Haven’t been this satisfied with an electronics purchase in over a decade.
I’d been shopping around for a new gaming display for Wii, PS3, Laptop through DVI, and movies, for a very long time, to replace my monster 36″ 300lb CRT. First I went with a 46″ LCD that just had too much lag, GHOSTING, grayish blacks, banding on the image, all these problems, and ended up returning it. Then a friend recommended I try the projector route. I was at first skeptical but eventually read a bunch of very helpful reviews on projectorreviews.com, and decided to go with this one, as it is marketed by Panasonic as a “gaming projector”
4 months of owning it and now I would never go back to anything else. Ever. Every one of my friends who sees this thing in action says the same thing – even one who has a massive 1080p 70″ Sony rear projection set. This thing is just stellar, the image is sharp, very bright – even in a dimly lit room, and vibrant with great contrast and colors, no lag or ghosting, perfectly complements the high gain 100″ gray glass beaded screen I bought for it (I recommend these over a plain white any day – see pictures)
There is no rainbow effect since it is a 3LCD projector, it is fairly quiet and does not have any sort of screen door effect, and ghosting is very very minimal – no more than a CRT or any other display. It also has a crazy amount of advanced image tweaking options that I’ve never seen on even the most expensive sony XBR LCD’s.
The short throw lens is very flexible and can easily fill a 100″ screen from less than 24 feet. I place mine in front of the viewers, on a table, angled slightly up with its adjustable feet, and found it gave a better picture than putting it behind and high above viewers. The viewing angle is very good – much better than the LCD it replaced, and is best achieved by placing it with the lens closer to the level of your head. The lens can be shifted all over the place with the little joystick and locked into place by twisting it, and the focal and zoom rings are very precise and have a nice feel.
Sure, it’s not 1080p, and I wrestled with this issue a lot before buying it, but now I see that it really wouldn’t matter unless i was trying to push this thing past maybe 150″ or more. Also, most ps3 games only support 720p anyway, and the wii is only 480p – and taking into account the great value to performance ratio of this thing, I don’t miss 1080p at all.
Even taking into account the bulb replacement costs (about $250 for each ~2000 hour bulb), I still feel it’s worth it and cannot stress how much I love this thing. I beat Metal Gear Solid 4 on it and it was a transcendental experience to play through it on such a huge and beautiful display.
The only bad thing I can think of about this projector is that the lens cap is manual – you have to clip it on when you’re done. I would have preferred a nice automatic one that shuts over the lens when you switch it off.
One final note – this projector is MADE IN JAPAN! How often do you see that any more? All the LCDs and Plasmas I looked at were all made in china, taiwan, mexico and all these other places that I feel have much much lower quality control standards than Japan. Made me feel very good about this product.
