5 Stars Lighter, smaller than my previous Epson, and wider lens too
I have an Epson 7350 which I paid nearly $3000. for about 6 years ago and is twice the size and weight, and 6 times the cost, of the 77c I bought recently. The 7350 has a higher native resolution than the specs on the 77c, but side by side I could not tell the difference when the 77c was up-rezzing a notch or two. The 77c has a “wider throw” (zoom) lens than my previous projector, which means you can place it closer to the screen at a given size. Generally this means fewer problems with having to put the projector farther out in the audience where cables/cords can get in the way. It is plenty bright on the “low” setting even in a room with some lights on, and the “high” setting is available when needed (there’s more fan noise on “high” but not too bad). Highly recommended, bright, small, reasonably priced technology. You may find a lower price somewhere else though.

This projector is lightweight, very user friendly, and makes doing presentations easy. The directions are very easy to understand when you first open the package. With 2200 Lumens the picture is very sharp and large and easily adjusted to any background. I highly recommend this projector for the price and its quality. The only thing that I recommend is that you purchase longer cords for in large classrooms as the cords that come with the projector may not be the proper length for your particular circumstances.

5 Stars Very happy with my new purchase
I bought this projector after agonizing over the decision for a month and convincing the wife to let me pull the trigger. I was replacing a very old VGA quality Sharp projector that I really disliked using because the picture quality was so bad.

I got the new projector and opened it up right away when I got it. This new projector was much smaller than the old one and was pretty light so it was easy to mount up on the ceiling. Being in Denver a mile high up MSL one of the first things I had to do was put the projector in high altitude mode which brings up the only real negative I have with this projector. In high light mode the fan can be very loud. In low mode its tolerable and still produces plenty of light in my theater room.

The picture quality of this projector feeding it a High Def signal is amazing. Discovery Channel and National Geo HD channels are my new best friends and even watching the HD versions of network shows and sports events are eye opening experiences. Even normal def signals look pretty good although obviously fuzzier on a 90″ wide screen.

Light others I agree that the blacks could be blacker but really unless you are a big video person you probably won’t notice. The color settings out of the box and although I’ve played with it a bit I’m partially color blnd so I’d probably make it worse. :< )

Very happy with the purchase.

5 Stars Amazing projector, better than expected !!!!!
I developed a good opinion about this projector from reading the various reviews on the internet, but after I hooked it up and saw a Blu Ray movie on the big screen for the first time, I was blown away by the quality. The image size was larger than expected and playing Xbox 360 games was as lifelike as possible. I had an InFocus 4805 480p projector prior to getting this one, which was a very solid projector, but the Epson produces larger images from the same distance and does HD as well. The only possible disadvantage with this projector is that it lacks keystone correction, which makes the image as straight as possible if the unit is not level. I don’t think this is a major negative because the feet on the bottom of the unit are adjustable. This, along with the horizontal and vertical correction buttons make the image straight. They actually do a better job than the keystone correction on my 4805. I would strongly recommend this unit for anyone interested in a budget HD projector. For $[...], you can’t go wrong with the Epson 1080.

4 Stars Amazing projector for price but needs more contrast
I’ve done my fair of research and this is by far the best 1080p projector for the money. I’ve been using it with my blu-ray player and I highly recommend it. If you have any ambient light in the room and plan on watching it during the day get the “UB” version of this projector instead. It’s a little bit more pricey but completely worth it. Even with a grey screen it was hard to watch this projector in my family room during the day without blacking out all the windows.

This item was purchased for a mens club that frequently has programs including powerpoint presentations. This projector is very adequate with outstanding brightness and reasonable zoom capabilities. It is quite easy to operate and functions equally easy with PC’s and Mac’s. The lower resolution does cause text images to be a little fuzzy on a large screen but this has not been a problem.

Unless I missed a review it loooks like everyone is buying this for running Powerpoint or something similar at the job. Just because it says it’s for meetings doesn’t mean it won’t work as your TV.

I bought this thing for the entertainment room in my basement. I can’t recommend it enough. $588?! Are you kidding? TOTAL BARGAIN! Do NOT waste hundreds more on something that might have a 5% better picture. Just throwing money away if you do.

I run my regular TV through it as well as a Hi-Def connection for the Xbox. I connect my laptop to it and we watch Netflix movies on the big screen.

Picture is excellent. 2000 ANSI is perfect for nearly all lighting conditions. Xbox is STUNNING. Made a huge difference in picture quality. Runs hi-def with an optional cable (buy a generic cable. Epson wants $100 for the cable. I paid $15. Wake up Epson, no one is paying $100 for that cable. At least I hope not….) It’s ONLY 1080i through the HDMI port, but for less then $600? Totally worth it.

300 hours on my bulb and it’s rated for 2000 hours at the HIGH setting. I use the low setting which makes very little difference in the brightness of the picture but it is supposed to add another 1000 hours of bulb life.

LOVE Epson, but their accessories need to be repriced. Cannot recommend this enough.

I use this projector with a smartboard in my high school classroom each and every day. It powers up quickly, is bright enough for all to see, and doesn’t require that I replace the bulb each year. A great projector for the money. I added an extension for the cord from the computer to the projector as the one that is provided is pretty short.

Needed a projector to present a slide show at my daughters graduation dinner, looked at renting one and at $100 a pop decided to take a chance on this. Easy set up and great projection! Have already used it for another slide show for my parents anniversary party and also to project movies on the side of the house for outdoor movie night! My husband needs it this week for an office dinner presentation so in a short 5 months we have already used it enough times to justify it’s purchase vs. a rental. (Used my amazon dollars from my credit card so the price couldn’t have been any better!) Honestly, I’m not a business user but I couldn’t imagine what else you could want in a projector. I’m thrilled we purchased this product!

5 Stars My first Projector! now in HD!
This review is probably more a complementary one to my already published HD Universe list-mainia piece. OK lets walk down the path again of what i wanted to do:

1. i made my decision on the DVD Wars format

2. I bought a high end Pioneer 24fps Bluray player

3. I am not planning on a big surround system except for a yamaha single closure system (which i wil connect directly to pioneer optical output)

4. The final piece was the actual eye candy!

I was doing allot of digging around with LCD vs Plasma vs SXRD vs LCOS from JVC and honestly when my brother in law pointed me in this direction, it was like a big slap on the face!!! when i saw this Powerlite in action i was instantly blown away.

I was made aware that in fact for me the cinematic true experience was in the size of the screen in addition to the actual Pixels being projected! i very much dumped the idea of a traditional windscreen box to watch my movies and opted for this gorgeous projector.

It was especially sweet because the store that carried this had no idea of what HD means! it was in a stock pile marked down in price too. i had no choice but to run home and grab my apple tv (loaded with some HD material) and test this puppy with HDMI hookup.

The contents were amazing and since apple TV shoots maximum at 720p, it was a match made in heaven. I didn’t really cared for 1080p vs 720p anymore. All that mattered now was 103′ diagonal view of actual 1 megapixel movie being projected on my white wall! Best part is all that eye candy from a Bluray 24fps player with digital optical for audio.

guys all i can say this piece is the ultimate in any HD mega setup.

4 Stars one of the best 720p projectors!
I bought this PJ elsewhere (not at Amazon) for $1149. This is my third digital PJ and the best unit so far. I started out about 12 years ago with the old heavy CRT beast. CRT is a rapidly dying breed and the pix quality has improved with digital PJ’s they are no longer worth the hassle (IMO).

The new Epson is much brighter then my old Panny PTL 500u (800 lums)which I’m replacing. Sharper cleaner pix with more detail in black areas as well as brighter areas. Blacks are very good with HD and good quality SD sources but not with so so quality SD (most cable channels). HD and full bandwidth off air SD look great! Blacks are as good as some low end DLP (under $2000)units with the dark chip 3. You won’t get the inky like blacks but will not be a distraction from movie either.

If you need to offset from center this is the unit for you. You can set the lens shift one full pix up or down and about the same side to side. You will need to sit about 1.2x screen size back to avoid seeing the pixel structure better know as SDE. I have a 100″ screen and pixels began to disappear about 10 to 11 feet back (102″ to 132″)thus the 1.2x.

Epson has great reputation for quality products and gives you a 2 year warranty if needed. I loved my Panny but with Panasonics ax100U issues I just can’t go with the Panny this time. I hope the 200u has been fixed but I’m not going to gamble with $1300 plus.

If you are like me and can see DLP rainbows then I highly recommend this unit. The only somewhat negative about this unit is the fan can be heard when not in low power cinema mode but does not disturb viewing experience. In low power (cinema modes) unless unit is right by your ear you probably never know it’s on. The high power mode is a little less noisy then a computer fan to give you some idea. If you have forced air heat (I do) then the air rushing from the ducts will make more noise then this PJ in high power mode. Could use a second HDMI input.

The picture quality and brightness is superb and you’ll be very happy with the quality of this unit. You may also want to look at the Sanyo Plv z5 for it has good reviews but is much dimmer then this unit. In a light controlled room that should not be an issue. Reviews by the so called experts put this unit near the top of the LCD pack and Epson customer service is by far better then Panasonic. Sanyo I have never had to deal with so can’t say .

This is one of the better 720p PJ’s on the market at present and you’ll be happy with the PQ of this unit.

5 Stars An outstanding experience
Manufacturer of the LCD panels used by most companies in their Home Theater projectors, until recently Epsons own offerings had remained lackluster. Their focus was mainly on high lumen, low contrast projectors for business and education, however, that has changed. With the introduction of their current line-up, Epson has unleashed an excellently valued 720p projector, capable of delivering a high quality big screen experience that will wow friends and family.

There is nothing like being able to watch your favorite movie on a 100″ screen. I enjoy watching Blu-Rays on my PS3, but DVDs look great too. Playing Call of Duty 4 occasionally is also a thrilling experience, with rich colors, depth and great shadow detail. If you haven’t experienced a modern high def projector and value video entertainment, you owe it to yourself to check it out. Its just light years from the washed out colors of 5 years ago. Its very watchable in all but the brightest lighting conditions and, in my view, produces a more satisfying picture than Plasma or LCD sets.

Before I purchased this model, I performed extensive research on the offerings available, reading every single review I could find and you just cant go wrong with either this or the Panasonic AX200. I opted for this one because of the slighter better colors and fewer complaints about problems from existing owners. The Panasonic offers a little more lumen output, but the Epson is more than bright enough.

If you have a little more cash, I would recommend the EPSON Powerlite Home Cinema 1080UB, as it is a superior projector not only in resolution, but in colors and black level, although it does cost over twice as much. For its price and the experience it offers, this projector is a steal and is guaranteed to offer hundreds of hours of great entertainment.

Final thoughts: my room is mostly reflexive white, and light does bounce back to the screen compromising black levels a bit. if you can, opt for matte colors.

Great projector… have it connected to an Onkyo TX-SR805 receiver and a set of Yamaha surround sound speakers. My cable TV, DVD’s, and HTPC play wonderfully on it! Great purchase and a great alternative to the $3000+ 1080p projectors.
